Happy Birthday, Owen!

It's hard to believe it, but Owen turned two in December. He even says, "I'm two!" He really likes going to birthday parties, singing "Happy Birthday" and demanding cake. For a small celebration at school, we brought noodles and told the kids about the Chinese tradition where the noodles represent longevity and you're supposed to slurp them up without biting them. After we sang "Happy Birthday," Owen looked around expectantly and said, "cake?"

A Chinese Birthday Tradition

Owen turned one in December and for the celebration, we followed a Chinese tradition for the one-year-old's birthday called "zwa shui." Owen's grandma Wai Po set up a stage with objects representing future professions, like a calculator for an accountant and baseball for an athlete. Owen choose a pen, which she says means he will be a scholar or thinker.
