Filmmaker Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding) takes the story of an Indian American family and paints a wonderful, insightful portrait of the cultural gap between immigrant parents and their Americanized children.I picked up Jhumpa Lahiri's novel, the inspiration for the film, but was never able to get very far. The movie, though, pulls you in right from the start. It is a universal story that tugs at your heartstrings but rings true about the meaning of family.
