A Long Way from Home

Yesterday we rode to Tororo, a sleepy town east of Kampala, close to the Kenyan border. It took four hours--a long, bumpy ride in a SUV. From a distance, there appears an impressive volcanic mountain known as Tororo Rock. For lunch, we had a local meal at the clinic. A plate of heaping starches: matoke (cooked mashed plantains), posho (corn maize), rice and beans, topped with a popular groundnut sauce that is purplish-pink. Very filling, to say the least. My favorite drink is called Stoney Tangawizi, which is like ginger ale but has a stronger taste.
